I had a chance to talk with the companies that were on the TravelCom panel with me last week in Atlanta and ask them their predictions for the travel industry in the next 12 months:

Sam – Agree with your predictions that we’ll see airline restructuring and likely and OTA merger. In all likelihood, one or more rental car companies will have to be restructured as well.

Interestingly, the same day you shot the video, the Google/Twitter rumor emerged. I see this happening, simply because Google can’t buy Facebook. So they’ll go after Twitter.

The morphing of Twitter that Elliot speaks to is an interesting prediction. I would expect the morphing to be very, very different however if Google gobbles them up. If that happens, look for all sorts of Google mashups — e.g. Twitter access within GMAIL and Blogger.

Good Stuff. I think that every grey cloud in the not always blue skies of the travel industry has a silver lining for someone out there. The only constant in this industry is change so the most nimble players will capitalise.
