While Las Vegas doesn’t immediately conjure up G-rated images of a wholesome family vacation destination, families can have a great time there. With a little bit of planning it’s definitely doable and it’s not like Sin City has banned children altogether (although certain hotels have strict Under-18 policies, like Bellagio). There’s a surprising number of Las Vegas hotels reaching out to families with kid-friendly activities—at extremely affordable rates. Did you really think all the elaborate pools, amusement park-like rides and nearby outdoor activities could JUST be for adults?

The City by the Bay conjures up a number of captivating views: cable cars, steep hills, Lombard Street, an iconic skyline pierced by the narrow tip of the Transamerica Building, the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, and more. San Diego claims to be the city with the best weather (and having grown up there, I can attest to the truth in their “Sunny San Diego” slogan) so what better way to have summer fun than by some hotel pools? While there are miles of beaches in San Diego, beaches don’t offer tailor-made DJ mixes, cocktail service (a definite NO with 2008’s alcohol ban on San Diego beaches) or spectacular city skyline views. San Diego hotels continue to open in downtown’s Gaslamp Quarter and the entire area is a hot spot for fun—both day and night. Two of our Top 9 Summer Hotel Pool Parties were hotels in San Diego and even then, we had a difficult time picking just two.
So if you’re a native San Diegan or an out-of-towner seeking poolside summer fun, spend a day (or a night) hanging at one of these best hotel pool parties in downtown San Diego:

It’s not always easy to figure out tipping standards when traveling—especially while abroad. How many times have travelers been ready to leave a restaurant in a foreign country and been dumbfounded about what the customary tipping standard is? In some countries cash tips are absolutely expected (a la the American way); in countries, like China, direct cash tipping is considered poor manners where it can be considered a “vulgar display of wealth and a disregard for the culture” (although discreet tipping methods are becoming more acceptable in luxury hotels, in the form of cash in an envelope); while in other countries tips are automatically included. Regardless of the standards, most employees rely on tips as part of their wages.
