San Diego claims to be the city with the best weather (and having grown up there, I can attest to the truth in their “Sunny San Diego” slogan) so what better way to have summer fun than by some hotel pools? While there are miles of beaches in San Diego, beaches don’t offer tailor-made DJ mixes, cocktail service (a definite NO with 2008’s alcohol ban on San Diego beaches) or spectacular city skyline views. San Diego hotels continue to open in downtown’s Gaslamp Quarter and the entire area is a hot spot for fun—both day and night. It’s not always easy to figure out tipping standards when traveling—especially while abroad. How many times have travelers been ready to leave a restaurant in a foreign country and been dumbfounded about what the customary tipping standard is? In some countries cash tips are absolutely expected (a la the American way); in countries, like China, direct cash tipping is considered poor manners where it can be considered a “vulgar display of wealth and a disregard for the culture” (although discreet tipping methods are becoming more acceptable in luxury hotels, in the form of cash in an envelope); while in other countries tips are automatically included.
