Disneyworld is a fascinating conglomerate of games, make believe and an endless array of eating options—sort of like a G-rated Vegas for kids. It’s no wonder that both Las Vegas and Orlando consistently rank in the top-two most desirous cities for hotel deals. And, just like Vegas, there is always something new and better, ALWAYS a deal…especially with the re-occurring “on-a-budget” theme prevailing now.
With multiple new attractions, including the popular American Idol Experience, even our President is getting a piece of the Disneyworld action with his “debut” at the Hall of Presidents. Starting July 4th, President Obama can be seen in eerily realistic life form (i.e., a super duper high-tech Audio-Animatronics figure), chatting with the likes of fellow presidents George Washington and Abe Lincoln all on one stage.

Although it’s been four decades since the infamous “Summer of Love,” its anniversary is not being overlooked—even by the hotel industry. Hotels are offering up the magical number of 69 for starting room rates all over the place, with one Arizona hotel even saluting the momentous year with a “Summer of ‘69” package. Although we can’t recall what monumental Love Fest happened in Arizona during 1969, the Sheraton Tucson is paying homage to the year with 69 rooms for $69/night; upgrades for $6.90; $69 massages; $6.90 munchies in the restaurant and $0.69 draft beers. Not bad for a newly completed $4 million renovated hotel in the desert.

Give 8 hours of your time and receive 24 hours of leisure time. That’s what 50 of Sage Hospitality’s properties plan on doing now until December 20, rewarding guests who give back to communities with either 50% off the published room rate or a complimentary night stay. In the Give and Get a Night deal, Sage Hospitality is making it even more accessible so that only one guest per party needs to have actually volunteered—although we’re hoping there won’t be too many slackers on this part of the deal.
While volunteerism and giving back aren’t exactly spanking new trends in the hotel industry, Sage Hospitality is making it easy for travelers to choose HOW they want to spend their time giving back. With super broad parameters as “complete 8 hours of volunteer service to any registered 501(c)3 non profit organization” to qualify for the deals, guests can choose a wide-range of volunteer activities and not just the limited hotel-chosen ones like most other volunteerism hotel programs.

It’s not even been a week since Michael Jackson’s startling death and there’s already talk about how and where to create a King of Pop pilgrimage spot. Just like Elvis Presley has been immortalized with his Memphis, Tennessee private estate-turned-museum, Michael Jackson’s legacy will surely need a location where fans can visit. A physical place where people can mourn, pay their respects and most importantly get a glimpse into a superstar’s private life that was super guarded. Read the rest of this entry »

Yesterday we launched (what we humbly think is) the world’s best travel deal email product. We’re really excited about bringing this product to market, and here’s why we think it’s important and something you will enjoy:

DealBase Alert Email
- It’s endlessly customizable to your interests. Unlike other travel deal newsletters which send the same content to everyone, you get to choose the destinations and types of hotels that interest you. This means you’ll receive deals that are far more relevant and interesting, as they match your preferences. And you never get deals for places you have no intention of visiting. For example, my wife hates going to Las Vegas – so her alerts include many great places, but never deals for Vegas.
- It’s an alert, not a newsletter. You’ll only hear from us when we have an interesting deal for you, and then you’ll hear right away, not on a certain day of the week (so you can get deals before they sell out.)
- It taps into our huge database of deals. DealBase has the world’s largest collection of hotel deals, promotions, offer codes, and insider savings – currently more than 27,000 deals. More than 100 new deals are added on any given day, about ten-times more deals than other sites.
- You’ll get the best deals, not just sponsor deals Our alerts are not advertorial, like the other guys – so you’ll be alerted of the best new deals, not just the deals from hotels that can afford to pay.
We have big plans for DealBase Alerts. Coming soon are more customization and delivery options. Sign up now, and we’ll keep you posted of new developments, right within your alerts!
Meanwhile, we’d love to hear from you about what you’d like us to add to make the “ultimate travel deal alert product”.
