While parades and BBQs will be in full force on the fourth of July, it’s the firework shows that really stand apart this American holiday from the rest. When else does the entire nation gang together to become temporary (let’s hope) supporters of pyromania? And unless you live in one of the few states where consumer fireworks are legal, you’ll have to outsource your 4th of July fireworks show. Luckily, many cities—and even hotels—are sponsoring major fireworks displays for the holiday. Here’s our roundup of American cities that have the best fireworks shows and accompanying 4th of July hotel deals:
BOSTON Fireworks Show: Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular show with a concert from Neil Diamond and Craig Ferguson. What other American city boasts www.july4th.org as their website?!
BOSTON 4th of July Hotel Deal: Omni Parker House “Boston Pops Package”
CHICAGO Fireworks Show: Taste of Chicago’s Independence Day “Eve” show over the lake with over 5,000 fireworks and 1 million attendees. Part of the week long “world’s largest outdoor food festival’s” activities.
CHICAGO 4th of July Hotel Deal: Ritz Carlton Chicago “4th of July Special”
LAKE TAHOE Fireworks Show: Lights on the Lake “largest synchronized fireworks display west of the Mississippi” show above the lake.
LAKE TAHOE 4th of July Hotel Deal: Village at Squaw Valley “Three Nights for Price of Two”
LAS VEGAS Fireworks Show: Simultaneous 9-minute “Station’s 4th of July Blast” show from nine different Station Casino properties.
LAS VEGAS 4th of July Hotel Deal: THEHotel at Mandalay Bay “All American Rejects”
NEW ORLEANS Fireworks Show: Dueling Barges Fireworks Extravaganza on the Mississippi riverfront choreographed to American patriotic classics. Gospel singing, watermelon tastings and more.

Just as free WiFi lures in hotel guests, a hotel with free breakfast draws in hotel visitors for big savings— especially in light of the economy. From made-to-order omelet bars to healthy eating options to gourmet coffee to breakfast bags for the on-the-go crowd, free hotel breakfasts can add major incentive for a hotel stay. An entire family can save big bucks by heading downstairs to the good ole’ breakfast buffet.
And while not all hotels offer entire elaborate free breakfast buffets, some are jumping on the free eating perks bandwagon and offering hotel barbecues, free grocery delivery and some of the best chocolate chip cookies we’ve ever tasted! Below is our round-up of free hotel breakfasts*, and we’ve also tagged all the hotel deals with free breakfasts on our site.

I found recently myself at Santa Barbara’s Bacara Resort & Spa for two days of much-needed R&R. A California luxury weekend getaway staple and celebrity haven since 2000, I was eager to see how much had changed since my first visit 9 years ago. An immediate plus was that rates can be found online right now for as “low” as $395/night. And, we were still able to get a $100 resort credit for our two-night stay over the phone—we didn’t even have to ask; they offered! Not bad, considering that this luxury property has other ocean view units and suites that go for $1-2k/night.
The resort is presently undergoing a major remodel, building by building, although you wouldn’t notice sans the giant soundproof covers on a few of the buildings. No noise, no flying dust! We were able to get a sneak peek at the already remodeled oceanview suites, tastefully done in the same California-Spanish design but with modern touches—including flat screen TVs and wireless internet that [gasp!] STILL are not offered in the original rooms. Yes, I used an Ethernet cord to connect to the WWW in my room.
Many of the remodeled standard rooms come with an optional attaching room upgrade (with a second deck, bathroom and pull-out couch). A little bird told us that if you simply ask upon check-in to see what’s available, you can upgrade to have access to this second room for as low as $100/night extra. Bummed we couldn’t tour the new Penthouse Suite (thanks to a certain Entourage actor staying there the night before), but the press photos still wowed us. Designed after an urban loft, the suite is filled with dark woods, modern art and a super sophisticated feel. A far cry from the typical Bacara aesthetic.
Lesson: in this crazy economy, it never hurts to ask away for extra deals and upgrades when you’re physcially there! Bacara Resort Deals and Santa Barbara Hotel Deals HERE.

The National Park Service is hoping to stir things up this summer with getting visitors IN to the parks while giving guests the luxury of not taking money OUT of their wallets. Translation: FREE entrance fees! Well, for three weekends anyway. Many Americans forget that the NPS has 391 sites spread out amongst 49 states (sorry, Delaware) and U.S. territories, all offering a variety of outdoor fun for families, friends and couples alike. With the economy still in a slump and gas prices still making plane travel prohibitive, inexpensive road trip vacations close to home are the way to go for ‘09. Free weekend or not, pack up your car, stay busy with fun road trip games and visit these most luxurious hotels (even if only for a cup of hot chocolate) in, or surrounding, the most popular national parks:

Father’s Day is the time when dads should be treated like the kings they hopefully are. Get on these Father’s Day deals because they’re going fast! (In case you don’t remember, Father’s Day 2009 is on Sunday, June 21.)

FOR THE GOLF LOVIN’ DAD—Pinehurst, North Carolina: Every golf lover needs to make at least one pilgrimage to Pinehurst, home to the U.S. Open. Pinehurst is offering the ultimate Father’s Day golf package, jam-packed with super special golf activities: morning rounds of golf, a dinner with best-selling author (and fellow golf lovin’ father) James Dodson and exclusive U.S. Open VIP room access on both weekend days.
FOR THE OUTDOORSY DAD—Tenaya Lodge, Yosemite: If your dad enjoys the great outdoors, open fire cooking and BBQ eating, here’s the perfect outdoors Father’s Day package from Tenaya Lodge in California’s Yosemite National Park.
