It’s been a busy week for our CEO, Sam Shank, at the 2008 PhoCusWright conference down in L.A.
On Monday, we launched our site to great fanfare, and you can relive the moment since our DealBase.com presentation was recorded along with those of our peers. (On the presentation page, hover your mouse over the top part of the video player. Look for the square with our name under it and then click it.)
“The difference is that they’re trying to give you more filtering and comparison options so that the consumer can try to figure out what is actually a deal and what isn’t.”
What I always appreciate when I read Brett’s articles is that he understands both the business perspective, from having been in the industry, as well as the consumer viewpoint. He has some additional observations about what this means for the travel suppliers, as well.
We may be a little biased in our agreement with Tim’s choices, but in particular, we concur with his observation that comes from being a player in any industry with upstarts and established companies:
“The test of innovation is an idea that no-one else thought of that has been executed well.”
That’s the challenge that we and our peers at this show are up against. Bring it on, we say!
Our official launch press release hit the wires this morning. Here’s a copy if you missed it.

We’ve been busy over the past few weeks, and this afternoon we released a major upgrade to DealBase.com. Here are the highlights:
Sort and Filter Deals
A huge addition, and something we’ve wanted to do since day one, is give travelers filtering and sorting tools to help sift through the thousands of deals on DealBase.com to find the perfect deal for their needs. You can now filter our long lists of deals (over 600 hotel deals in New York City alone!) by star rating, price range and date range. So, for example if you want to stay in a 5 star hotel for around $250/night in NYC, you can find such a deal at the Alex Hotel (where you’ll be saving $147/night!)
Every four years, Washington DC hotels pull out all the stops as their city becomes focused on the presidential inauguration and the various inaugural events happening in the city. This election, regardless if it’s John McCain and Sarah Palin as the GOP party president and vice-president, or Democrats Barack Obama and Joe Biden in the White House, a new president is going to be sworn in.
Inauguration 2009, as has been tradition since 1937, occurs on January 20 at noon. Both President-elect and Vice-President-elect will take the oath of office from the steps of the United Stated Capitol. After some traditional fanfare, the new president will then deliver his inaugural address. This speech is meant to set the tone for the new administration.
Wikipedia further explains that the inaugural celebrations start five days before the actual inauguration day, and last up to five days after. That’s a lot of inaugural balls to attend – do you own that many tuxedoes or evening gowns?
How hard is it to find a hotel room in Washington DC at this time of year? Consider this their high season – or the equivalent of the Olympics for the national political scene. Your best (and oftentimes only) bet is to choose from any of a myriad of hotel packages that these Washington DC hotels create for such an occasion.
Prices for these stays may be a pretty penny, but for a chance to be part of history in the making (regardless of which political party wins), it’s well worth it to lock-in some stellar accommodations.
